Small actions, shared responsibility: sustainability in practice at Boyum IT
01.10.2026
Sustainability can sometimes feel like a big topic. It includes data, reporting, targets and long-term commitments. But it also becomes real through the decisions we make every day and the actions we take together.
At Boyum IT, we want sustainability to be connected to how we work, how we collaborate and how we contribute to the communities and environments around us. For us, it is not only about having a policy or producing a report. It is also about creating awareness, making more conscious choices and involving our people in practical initiatives.
Understanding our impact
One important step in working with sustainability is understanding where our impact comes from. That is why we work with ClimatePartner to measure our corporate carbon footprint, helping us better understand where our emissions come from and where we can improve over time
For a global company like Boyum IT, travel is one of the areas that matters. Meeting customers, partners and colleagues across countries is sometimes important and necessary. At the same time, how we travel makes a difference.
Our sustainable travel approach encourages us to ask whether a trip is needed, consider lower-emission alternatives where practical, plan ahead and track travel-related emissions. This helps us make more informed choices while still supporting collaboration, customer relationships and business needs.
It is not about removing all travel. It is about travelling with intention.
Collaboration with purpose
As a global company, we work across offices, in countries and in individual remote locations. This means flexibility and virtual collaboration are important parts of how we work.
At the same time, we also believe that being together matters. Offices play an important role in building relationships, strengthening culture and helping teams do excellent work together.
For us, the benefit is not simply “less office time” or replacing in-person collaboration. It is about making conscious choices: using virtual collaboration where it works well, travelling when it creates real value and coming together when connection, teamwork and culture benefit from being in the same room.
In that way, flexible and distributed ways of working can support both sustainability and culture, when they are used with purpose.
Turning awareness into action
Sustainability is also about participation. When people are invited to take part in practical initiatives, the topic becomes more tangible and easier to connect with.
One example is World Cleanup Day. This year, colleagues from offices and individual locations around the world took part and collected around 200 kg of waste in total.
It was a simple activity, but also a strong reminder of what we can achieve when people across locations act together. Whether colleagues joined from an office or contributed individually in their local area, the initiative helped make sustainability more tangible and connected our global team around a shared purpose.
Giving back to our communities
Sustainability is not only environmental. It also has a social dimension.
In December, in connection with International Volunteer Day, we will once again give colleagues the opportunity to support local communities and causes. By creating space for volunteering during working hours, we make it easier for people to take part and use their time, skills and energy to create value beyond their everyday work.
This is not the first time we have made volunteering part of our culture, and it reflects something important to us: giving back should be possible in practice, not only encouraged in principle.
For us, this connects naturally to our Energy for LIFE culture. Energy for LIFE is about people, wellbeing, collaboration and engagement. It is also about how we use our energy responsibly, both inside and outside the workplace.
A shared responsibility
We know that sustainability is a continuous journey. It requires better data, clear priorities and ongoing action. It also requires involvement from people across the organization.
At Boyum IT, Energy for LIFE is not only about wellbeing at work. It is also about the energy we bring to our colleagues, our partners, our communities and the environment around us. Sustainability becomes more meaningful when it is connected to everyday choices, shared responsibility and practical action.
Policies, reporting and targets matter. But so do the everyday choices and shared initiatives that help build awareness and momentum.
At Boyum IT, we want to keep taking practical steps, learning as we go and making sustainability part of how we work together.
Because responsibility becomes stronger when it is shared.
