How personal development supports Energy for LIFE

In honor of Workplace Development Month, we are taking a moment to highlight something that is important to Boyum IT: continuous learning and personal development.

A healthy workplace is not only built through strong collaboration, wellbeing, and everyday energy. It is also built by giving people opportunities to learn, grow, and develop their skills over time.

At Boyum IT, this is closely connected to our Energy for LIFE culture. We believe that when people have clarity, support, and access to development opportunities, they are better equipped to do their best work, build confidence, and grow with the company.

Skills for a changing world of work

The world of work is changing quickly. New technologies, new ways of working, and changing customer expectations mean that employees need to keep developing throughout their careers.

Technical skills remain important. Product knowledge, role-specific expertise, and digital capabilities all matter. But workplace trends also show that human skills are becoming increasingly important. Skills such as communication, collaboration, adaptability, resilience, leadership, and critical thinking help people work well with others, navigate change, solve problems, and contribute to a strong workplace culture.

These skills are sometimes called soft skills, but there is nothing soft about their impact. They influence how we give and receive feedback, how we lead meetings, how we manage priorities, how we support colleagues, and how we respond when things change.

In a global company like Boyum IT, these skills are especially important. We work across countries, cultures, time zones, functions, and teams. Strong communication, trust, collaboration, and self-leadership help us succeed together.

Personal Development Plans

At Boyum IT, we want development to be practical, structured, and part of our ongoing conversations.

Every year, each employee works with their direct manager to create a Personal Development Plan, also known as a PDP. To keep development active and structured, we have set an annual target that at least 80% of employees to have a completed and active PDP by February each year.

The PDP is an important tool for supporting growth and development within Boyum IT. It helps create clarity around where the employee is today, where they would like to grow, and which steps can support that journey.

A PDP can be compared to a GPS. To guide you in the right direction, it first needs to know where you are starting from. In the same way, the first step in a good development conversation is to understand the employee’s current role, strengths, skills, interests, and development areas. From there, the employee and manager can define relevant goals and agree on actions that support continued growth.

The PDP process is more than a formality. It is a structured and personal conversation about development, motivation, aspirations, and opportunities. It helps employees take ownership of their learning journey, while also ensuring that individual development is connected to team and company priorities.

By setting clear goals and follow-up actions, the PDP helps employees understand their development path and how they can continue to grow within Boyum IT.

Career Framework

To support our commitment to professional growth, we have implemented two key initiatives: our Career Framework and Leadership Pipeline.

The Career Framework serves as a roadmap for professional development within Boyum IT. It provides a clear understanding of the different pathways for growth and advancement, helping employees identify opportunities that align with their skills, interests, and career aspirations.

It also supports better development conversations between employees and managers by creating a shared language around role expectations, competencies, and progression.

Together, the PDP, Career Framework, and Leadership Pipeline help make development more transparent, structured, and connected to both individual ambitions and business needs.

Learning through our E-learning Hub

We offer a wide range of training and development opportunities to help employees grow.

For our own solutions, all employees have access to online training through our E-learning Hub from the moment they onboard. This allows employees to learn at their own pace, build product knowledge, and earn certifications.

Product knowledge is an important part of development at Boyum IT. Based on our internal training data from 2020 to June 2026, more than 2,100 course enrollments are connected to product-related training. This reflects how important product understanding is across our organization. Whether employees work directly with customers and partners, support internal teams, develop solutions, or contribute to another function, strong product knowledge helps us collaborate better and create more value.

At the same time, development is not only about product expertise. Our E-learning Hub also includes curated courses focused on personal development, leadership, communication, wellbeing, and professional effectiveness.

Overall, our internal training data from 2020 to June 2026 includes more than 3,400 course enrollments across 187 course titles and 19 course categories. This includes both product-related training and courses focused on personal development, leadership, communication, wellbeing, and professional effectiveness.

We are also seeing growing interest in personal and leadership development. Across Employee Growth Trainings and Manager Development Trainings, we have seen 470 enrollments, covering topics such as career development, personal development planning, communication, authentic listening, stress management, unconscious bias, presentation skills, and leadership.

Compared with the same period last year, year-to-date enrollments in Employee Growth Trainings and Manager Development Trainings have increased by 161%, from 59 enrollments in 2025 to 154 enrollments in 2026. For us, this is a positive sign that employees and managers are actively engaging with development opportunities and building skills that support both individual growth and our shared Energy for LIFE culture.

Our internal training is currently structured around different topics, including:

  • Wellbeing
  • Career Development
  • Professional Effectiveness
  • Communication
  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
  • Leadership Foundations

Some courses are designed for employees, some for managers, and some for both. The target audience is specified for each course, making it easier to find relevant learning opportunities.

Personal development is part of Excellence

One of our four Energy for LIFE values is Excellence. For us, Excellence is not about perfection. It is about continuously improving, learning from experience, and taking responsibility for doing good work. Employee development is closely connected to this value.

When we invest in learning, we strengthen not only individual capabilities, but also our shared ability to collaborate, lead, innovate, and support customers. Learning helps us build confidence, improve quality, and create better outcomes across the company.

It also supports a healthy workplace. When employees understand their role, see opportunities to grow, and have access to relevant development, they are better equipped to contribute, adapt, and thrive.

Development works best when it is a shared responsibility between the employee, the manager, and the company.

Employees are encouraged to take ownership of their own learning journey, explore relevant training, and reflect on how new knowledge can be applied in daily work.

Managers play an important role in supporting development conversations, giving feedback, identifying learning needs, and helping employees connect development with role expectations and career goals.

As a company, Boyum IT supports this through accessible learning resources, career frameworks, and a continued focus on development as part of our culture.

Building energy for the future

Personal development is not something that happens once a year or only during formal training. It happens through feedback, collaboration, reflection, new challenges, mentoring, training, and everyday learning.

By supporting both professional knowledge and human skills, we help employees build the confidence and capability needed for the future.

That is part of how we bring Energy for LIFE to work.

We recharge, we learn, we grow, and we continue building a workplace where people can do their best work over time.
